Šics, Uģis. Latvija ceļā uz NATO. Rīga: Latvijas Ārpolitikas institūts, 1996.
The author analyses the historical circumstances that determined the development and consolidation of the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO), its institutional structure, functioning principles, as well as means and methods that served to defend the interests of its members in the Cold War. Attention is also paid to the problems confronting the Alliance after the abolishment of the Warsaw Treaty Organization. The book also deals with Latvian– NATO cooperation in 1991–1996. Supplements contain a chronology of the most important events in the history of NATO, the text of the North Atlantic Treaty and the NATO statement of 10 January 1994 on Partnership for Peace.
