The aim of the seminar was to analyze the progress which the Baltic States have made in terms of their EU membership negotiations.  Several issues were discussed.  One was the ability of candidate countries to defend their national interests by being granted advantageous transition periods and exemptions.  Other issues included the internal problems of the EU and the Swedish presidency of the EU and the relationship between these problems and a speeding up of the EU enlargement process.
